HOW TO JOIN

Before joining the registry

Read the ABMDR donor brochure "Joining the bone marrow registry" available at any Australian Red Cross Blood Service Donor Centre or from the ABMDR website.

Click here for the address of Australian Red Cross Blood Service donor centre in your area.

Joining the registry

If you reside in Australia, are between 18 and 45 years old, in good health, meet the eligibility criteria and are prepared to donate for anyone in the world, call the Australian Red Cross Blood Service on 13 14 95 to make an appointment to donate blood and join the registry.

When you go to give blood

When you go to donate blood ask the nurse at reception for the ABMDR enrolment form and complete this document before donating blood.

Donate blood: You will be asked to make a blood donation of 470 mL and an additional 20-30 mL of this will be collected to determine your tissue type.

Now that you are registered as a potential bone marrow donor

It is most likely that the next time the ABMDR will contact you will be if you are identified as a suitable match for a patient. But please keep us informed of any changes to your name, address and contact details so that we can find you as quickly as possible if you are a suitable match.
