Complaints

Participants, researchers, staff of institutions and others can make a complaint involving conduct of research or conduct of the ethics committee.

  • All volunteers participating in research can contact the Secretary of the Ethics Committee or the ABMDR Executive Officer with any complaints or concerns. Participants must be informed of this mechanism as part of the consent process.
  • A researcher with a complaint or appeal regarding a decision by Scientific Review Panel or the Ethics Committee should, in the first instance, submit details of the complaint or appeal in writing to the Secretary of the Ethics Committee.

Once a complaint is received, the Ethics Committee will review it and all attempts will be made to resolve the matter as quickly as possible. A written reply will be provided to the complainant with the final resolution.

The complainant must reply to the chair of Ethics Committee as soon as practicable indicating whether the complainant is satisfied with the response.

Unresolved issues can be escalated to the ABMDR Research Governance Committee (addressed to the ABMDR National Executive Officer). The Research Governance Committees decision will be communicated to the complainant and the Ethics Committee.
