Public cord blood donation in Australia is operated by the National Cord Blood Collection and Banking Network, AusCord.
AusCord has a presence in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and in the Northern Territory; and only collects donations from specific participant hospitals.
The donation of cord blood is an individual and voluntary choice. If you are considering donating your cord blood you should:
- Be willing to donate to any patient in the world
- Be giving birth in one of the AusCord collection hospitals (see table below)
- Discuss your wish to donate cord blood with your doctor and/or midwife at one of your antenatal visits
- Ask for information about AusCord when attending antenatal visits
